30 Hour Driver Education & 6 Hour Behind the Wheel

Beginning January 1st, 2007, all 16-year-olds applying for a class D driving license in Georgia must complete an approved driver education course with a driving school registered by the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS).

JUST DRIVER TRAINING is a licensed driving school with the State of Georgia, license #DT-363. All of our driving instructors are certified by the Georgia Department of Driver Services to provide driver education courses and supervised driving instruction that meet Joshua’s Law requirements.

6 Hour Behind-The-Wheel Driving Course

Behind-the-Wheel is based on private training, one-on-one with a qualified instructor.  The 6-hour driver training course is delivered in three 2-hour sessions. 

We provide door-to-door service and personal contact with parents/guardians in metro Atlanta counties of Cherokee, Cobb, Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinett, Forsyth, Dawson, Gilmer, Paulding, Pickens and Bartow. Follow up discussions ensure that all parties are on the same page with training and preparing the young teen for this important step in their lives. HOT NEWS FOR 14 year olds!

At age 14, Teens are now permitted to begin the 30 hour Online Driver Education course which has been approvedby the DDS to assist in preparing them for their learner's permit exam when they turn 15. Many students struggle with the learner's manual and it has been found that the online driver's ed course makes this task much more fun, as it is interactive and flexible.  The course provides much needed knowledge, expanding their understanding ofvehicles, responsibility and driving. Together with the information from the learner's manual, the Teen is more prepared for the challenge of learning to drive. Certificates of Completion will be issued on the Teen's 15th birthday.

The course has an extended time for students of this age and is accessible for a full year.  Many teens in Middle School are already learning about their driving environment from our Virtual School.  The success rate of this course is phenomenal with scores in the high 90's.

ADAP  (Alcohol, Drug and Awareness Program)

The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) announced the availability of its ONLINE ADAP for students who do not wish to take the course at High School as an elective or through Health.  All teens under 18 are required to successfully complete ADAP in order to obtain their Class D Georgia Driver's license. The course must be completed in 30 days from receiving the username and password.  The course is approximately 4 hours and consists of four Modules, a video and final exam.  A minimum score of 70% must be achieved to pass the course. The Certificate of Completion will be available to download immediately after successfully completing the course.

OUR  SUPPORT TEAM
All instructors that assist and monitor the 30 hour Driver Education Course Online are licensed and certified by the Department of Driver Services.  Support Staff offer assistance at sign-up and the registration process.  They monitor the progress of students throughout the course and provide online assistance when needed.

INSURANCE DISCOUNTS AND TAX CREDIT
Students completing the 30/6 are eligible for a 10% or more reduction in insurance premiums depending on the insurance company. Parents are eligible for a $150 Georgia State Income Tax deduction - (section 48-7-29.5 if a dependent minor child of a Georgia taxpayer completes our driver education program, the taxpayer is entitled to a tax credit of $150). In some cases, insurance companies are applying discounts for both the Online and 6 hour Behind-the-Wheel, (contact your insurance agent for confirmation). JUST DRIVER TRAINING provides courses to satisfy all requirements, including defensive driving for first time offenses or minor infringements.

TEACHING THE DANGERS OF USING COMMUNICATION DEVICES WHILE DRIVING

Students in GA County Schools listen intently as Melody talks about the dangers of using communication devices while driving. The new ban on texting and talking behind the wheel came into effect on July 1st 2010.

Georgia law states that no person who is 18 years of age or older or who has a Class C license shall operate a motor vehicle on any public road or highway of this State while using a wireless telecommunications device. Under this law, drivers cannot write, send or read a text message, email, or use the internet on any wireless device while driving. This includes texting at red lights or turn lanes.

TADRA – THE TEENAGE AND ADULT DRIVER RESPONSIBILITY ACT
TADRA (The Teenage and Adult Driver Responsibility Act) is a graduated driver’s license program for young drivers ages 15 to 18. It was established in Georgia by a collaborative effort of highway safety advocates, legislators, law endorsement officials, educators, businesses and media in the wake of a high number of fatal vehicle crashes involving young, inexperienced drivers. The law significantly changes the way young motorists earn and maintain the privilege of driving by providing a controlled means for new drivers to gain experience and by reducing high-risk driving situations.

This act directly addresses the leading killer of our young people – traffic crashes. While the law does focus on young drivers, it also contains important provisions that affect drivers over 21, particularly in the area of DUI prevention and enforcement.

TADRA involves an intense, three-step educations process that allows the young driver to gain more experience behind the wheel:

Why TADRA?
1. In 2000, one out of five fatal crashes in Georgia involved speed, with drivers ages 16-17 having the highest rate of motor vehicle fatalities (based on the total number of drivers per age group).

2. Young, inexperienced drivers ages 16 to 24 have a higher rate of crashes, injuries, and fatalities than drivers over age 24.

3. The Teenage and Adult Driver Responsibility Act (TADRA), enacted on July 1, 1997, led to a 44.5 percent decline in teenage speed-related crashes in 18 months, which was five times less than the rate of drivers over the age 24.

CRASH AVOIDANCE COURSE

TEENS AND ADULTS

JUST DRIVER TRAINING identified a need to provide additional training in the areas of collision avoidance, distracted driving and general driver awareness. The Crash Avoidance Course was introduced in an endeavor to save young lives, and provide Teens and young Adults with additional driving skills beyond the basic driving requirements of the state of Georgia. 

The program takes the Teen's driving ability to the next level, focuses on awareness, distracted driving and the steps of defensive driving. The course pre-sets the reaction of a driver in a time of emergency to avoid a collision and promote safety behind the wheel.

Drivers are trained in a course designed to enhance precision steering, emergency braking, vehicle control and collision avoidance techniques directly behind the wheel. These skills are practiced in a training area with additional driving in a real time environment. Training includes reactions and skills to manage driving in inclement weather conditions, blow-outs and speed control.

SPECIAL NEEDS DRIVER TRAINING

JUST DRIVER TRAINING provides specialized training for individuals with disabilities.  An evaluation is made and a driving course is customized to best suit the individuals needs.

Vehicle modifications are discussed based on the individual’s disability. JUST DRIVER TRAINING will assist in contacting the necessary partners for vehicle modifications. Once modifications are completed on the individual’s private vehicle, driver training sessions will be scheduled. In some cases (see Tyler Kizer’s Story) a regular vehicle may be used, adapting the abilities of the individual to control a regular vehicle and obtain a regular driving permit.
